More than 100 soldiers will swap rifles for rods at the weekend for a worthy cause.
Townsville 3rd Combat Engineer Regiment is hosting its Legacy Fishing Competition, in which 160 Townsville soldiers compete in various categories.
The cause was enough to hook Lieutenant Vincent Van de Graaff, who doesn’t regard himself as much of a fisherman. “I’m heading out to the reef this weekend,” he said, proud to join mates and support Legacy, which provides support to 650 beneficiaries, including more than 40 children.
It is expected the competition would raise more than $10,000.
“Funds raised from the fishing competition go towards the Legacy widows annual Christmas party, which is one of the most valued events of the year,” Townsville Legacy CEO Nicole Hayes said.
“With the impact of COVID this year, the parties will be even more special ”
