King tides could lead to flooding in low-lying Townsville areas

Townsville City Council is warning people to move valuables and cars to prevent them damaged by saltwater ahead of the king tide expected this weekend.

People living in low-lying areas of Townsville are being urged to take precautions ahead of the king tides expected this weekend.

The king tides are predicted from Saturday and will peak at 4.12m at 8.52am on Monday.

Townsville City Council recommends residents in areas prone to flooding during the tides move valuables and cars to protect them from saltwater.

Suburbs such as South Townsville and Railway Estate may be impacted, as could Hanran St and Ogden St in the city.

The tides forecast for the king tides is below:

3.82m Saturday 7 March at 7.40am

4.03m Sunday 8 March at 8.15am

4.12m Monday 9 March at 8.52am

4.07m Tuesday 10 March at 9.31am

3.86m Wednesday 11 March at 10.11am
