Police are investigating after a vehicle was stopped and searched outside the Townsville Correctional Centre, leading to the seizure of several items.
The incident occurred on Monday, July 29, when detectives from the Queensland Police Service intercepted a vehicle allegedly driven by a 47-year-old man on Dwyer Street, Stuart.
“Police executed a search warrant on the vehicle and seized a number of items,” a police spokeswoman said.
“No charges have been laid, and investigations are ongoing.”
Sources within the jail say the individual involved is an employee of Queensland Corrective Services (QCS). However, QCS has neither confirmed nor denied this claim.
“In circumstances where QCS becomes aware of potential criminal behaviour, the intelligence is provided to police,” a spokesman from corrections said.
“QCS works closely with police investigations to ensure the safety and security of our correctional centres.”
