International stars shine at Australian Festival of Chamber Music in Townsville

International artists performing in the acclaimed Australian Festival of Chamber Music in Townsville have arrived and are loving the North Queensland winter sun. Meet two of this year’s must-see performers.

International artists performing in the acclaimed Australian Festival of Chamber Music in Townsville have arrived and are loving the North Queensland winter sun.

Among the stars are Belgium-based violinist Alexandra ‘Sascha’ Raikhlina and UK clarinetist Julian Bliss, who took a moment to enjoy the sunshine along The Strand over the weekend despite their busy schedules.

Ms Raikhlina, born in Moscow and raised in Belgium, is a highly decorated violinist.

She trained at the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin School and Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

She has performed across Europe with renowned orchestras like the LSO and Royal Northern Sinfonia and participated in prestigious festivals such as Gstaad and Paxos.

One of her many performances during the festival is on Monday night in Concert Conversations 2, along with Christian-Pierre La Marca, Roderick Williams, Umberto Clerici, and Stephen Johnson.

Mr Bliss, one of the world’s finest clarinetists, will also perform on Monday at the Ray Golding Sunset Series 2 and the AFCM Evening Concert 1.

Starting his musical journey at age four, he studied in the US and Germany and turned professional at twelve. He has performed at top festivals and halls globally and with major international orchestras.

From 26 July to 4 August, more than 35 artists — including 10 international, 20 Australian artists, and 5 ensembles — will bring the festival to life, celebrated worldwide for its unique atmosphere and musical excellence.
