Townsville is set to buzz next July with round three of the 2026 Australian Kart Championship bound for North Queensland, just days before the Supercars NTI Townsville 500.

The event was secured from a partnership between Townsville Enterprise and Townsville City Council, hoping to bring more motorsports to the region with approximately 1,500 fans expected to visit for the event.

Five cities across the country will host the National rounds, which attract top drivers from across Australasia, and the event in Townsville will precede the Supercars NTI Townsville 500 by a few days.

Karting Australia CEO Kelvin O’Reilly said he was thrilled to bring the championship to Townsville for the first time ever.

“The Townsville Karting Club, backed by passionate local motorsport community, offers an ideal stage for our drivers to showcase their skills,” he said.

“We look forward to delivering a world-class round that celebrates grassroots motorsport and adds to the excitement leading into the Supercars NTI Townsville 500.”

Townsville mayor Nick Dametto said the event would attract thousands to stunning North Queensland.

“We expect to see strong cross-event benefits and boosted visitation, all while shining a spotlight on the Townsville Kart Club and the incredible staff and volunteers who keep it running,” he said.

“Seeing the 2026 Australian Kart Championship choose Townsville for round three is incredibly exciting for local competitors, their families and motorsport fans.”
