A TOWNSVILLE man wanted to bite a cop “on his balls” when five police officers were needed to pull him to the ground.
Police were called to an incident at the post office at the City Arcade in August last year before things quickly spiralled out of control.
The details were revealed on Thursday when Conrad Monerville, 51, fronted the Townsville District Court and pleaded guilty to one charge of serious assault of a police officer.
Crown Prosecutor Molly Mahlouzarides said when police approached Monerville inside the arcade shopping centre and arrested him, he became aggressive and physically resisted police as they tried to move him to the car.
Despite being told to stop, he continued to struggle and “eventually police pulled him to the ground”.
It was as they hit the ground that Monerville bit a police officer on the leg through his trousers, and called out “I want to be dead. Kill me. Shoot me,” Ms Mahlouzarides said.
Ms Mahlouzarides said Monerville accused the police of being racist before they took him to the watch-house and he again became aggressive and made threats and said “I wanted to bite the officer on his balls, bite his testicles off”.
Monerville’s barrister Ross Malcomson said his client came to Australia from the West Indies in 2006.
Mr Malcomson said there was no break to the police officer’s skin and took “great exception” to the insinuation by police that he had stalked a young girl inside the post office.
Mr Malcomson said Monerville accepted his actions however and was remorseful.
In sentencing, Judge Deborah Richards said Monerville’s actions were “completely out of order” and sentenced him to nine months imprisonment, suspended forthwith.
A conviction was recorded and Monerville walked free.
