Passionate Townsville old-timer car enthusiasts can preserve and restore the past while promoting everything hot and fast at the Cyclones Rod and Custom Car Club Townsville.
The Club brings together people who have a passion to enjoy, improve and show off their classic and historical cars.
Cars that are typically 20 years and older call into the classic car class.
Secretary and former president Bernadette Cooper has been a part of the club for a decade and said her obsession with vintage cars started in high school.
“There used to be a lady who had a classic car that drove past and I used to stop and look at this lady who was always immaculate in the beautiful car and it always caught my eye,” she said.
“I told myself, one day, I will own one of them.”
Ms Cooper currently owns a black 1962 SV1 Valiant while her husband, Jeff Cooper owns a black 1969 XW Ford Falcon.
Mr Cooper has also been a member of the club for 10 years and specialises in 16 classic cars at his mechanical business.
The self-confessed revhead said she loved being part of the club for its diversity.
“You get to meet so many different people with different interests and we all come together for the same interest at the end of the day,” Ms Cooper said.
“We are from all different walks of life, experiences and backgrounds.”
The club holds its annual car show at Jezzine Barracks in July every year with all the proceeds from the event donated to local charities.

The club is heavily involved in the community organising fundraising events for charities as well as visiting nursing homes.
Ms Cooper said she valued the time she spent at the aged care facilities sharing her pride and joy with the residents.
“We sit with the oldies and they come out and get to see the cars,” she said.
“We spend an hour with them and they talk about what they drove when they were younger and it is just about a little reminiscing.”
The club was founded in 1998 and currently has 125 members possessing a diverse range of domestic and international classic cars of all makes, models and types.
Members attend monthly meetings as well as join each other on monthly car cruises where they all get to blast down the highway together.
Ms Cooper said she appreciated how the club connected her with other car enthusiast’s hot rod collections.
“Some of them really blow your mind about how stunning they are and the way the things were built back in those eras and how advanced they were,” she said.
“Some of the vehicles were way ahead of their time when you see the engineering and to look at it is like a history lesson.”
