A 20-year-old Blackwater man facing a string of charges, including assaulting police, will face court today after allegedly attempting to carjack a woman armed with a screwdriver.

An alleged would-be carjacker had his first mention in the Magistrates Court.
Lennox Frederick Reid, 20, did not appear but has been charged on eight counts as the case was mentioned before Magistrate Peter Smid.
The Blackwater man was arrested after allegedly attempting to carjack an elderly woman armed with a screwdriver.
No bail was requested and Mr Smid adjourned the case until August 18.

A 20-year-old Blackwater man facing a string of charges, including assaulting police, will face court today after allegedly attempting to carjack a woman armed with a screwdriver.
The man was arrested on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in an attempted carjacking on Crete St, Aitkenvale, about 11am, with police also accusing him of assaulting officers during the dramatic arrest, which ended up with him being hauled off in a stretcher.
It will be alleged the 20-year-old approached a 69-year-old woman driving a white SsangYong SUV armed with a screwdriver, smashed the driver’s side window and tried to steal her car before a male bystander intervened.
The alleged offender fled on foot, and police located him at a nearby residence on Crete St, where he appeared to have been bitten by a neighbourhood dog.
He was taken into custody and charged later that night.
He has been charged with one count each of attempted robbery with violence, attempted unlawful use of a motor vehicle, attempted enter dwelling with intent, enter dwelling with intent, unlawful entry of a vehicle for committing indictable offence whilst armed, wilful damage and two counts of serious assault police officer.
He has been refused police bail and is expected to appear at Townsville Magistrates Court today, June 14.
