Tributes laid, garbage collection delayed after woman’s death in Bushland Beach

Flowers have been laid along a Bushland Beach street, after a 85-year-old woman was struck by a garbage truck and died.
The floral tributes were placed along Daintree Drive on Thursday morning, with one neighbour saying it was “heartbreaking”.
“I feel for her family,” they said.
Another said it was a “horrible situation”.
On Wednesday, the woman in her 80s was struck by a garbage truck on the residential street at about 12.15pm.
Paramedics found the woman with “life-threatening” injuries, and she was later declared dead at the scene.
The Queensland Police Service Forensic Crash Unit are assisting Workplace Health and Safety Queensland with their investigations.
Council CEO Joe McCabe said in a statement that his thoughts were with the family and loved ones of those impacted by the incident.
“Safety is council’s number one priority – for our staff, our contractors and for the broader community.”
Townsville City Council will not be collecting any bins today after a woman was killed in a collision with a garbage truck.
The council released the statement on Thursday morning, informing residents that all bin collections scheduled for Thursday, July 10 would now be collected on Saturday, July 12.
“If your waste or recycling bin is usually collected today, Thursday, please leave it on the kerb for collection this Saturday,” the council said in a statement.
“All Friday collections will go ahead as scheduled.”
