Gang of girls assault taxi driver, rob Hyde Park servo in early hours

A taxi driver has been assaulted after a theft at a Hyde Park service station early this morning.

A TAXI driver has been assaulted after a theft at a Hyde Park service station early this morning.

Initial reports indicate a group of five to six girls were involved in the assault on the cabbie after they stole items from Liberty Oil at Charters Towers Rd.

Police confirmed the group stole cigarettes and drinks from the servo, and a worker called police when the group started ”punching into” a cab driver.

The group fled the scene and ran into a gully area near Mysterton.

Reports indicate a group of girls were scoping out other service stations earlier in the night.

Townsville Rapid Action Patrol Group were called and arrested one of the suspects.

She was taken to Townsville Watchhouse.

It is believed the cab driver was not seriously injured.
