Having fun and making connections were top of the agenda for families going to the 2024 Welcome and Information Expo at the Townsville Stadium on the weekend.

Commander 3rd Brigade Brigadier Dave McCammon said this year’s expo had been a great success with a bumper crowd in attendance.

“A big thanks to Defence Member and Family Support (DMFS) for putting on such a fantastic expo, it seems to get bigger and bigger each year,” he said.

“A great opportunity for people posting to see what this great city has got on offer.

The Brigadier said the expo was the perfect start for defence families new to the garrison city to make connections.

“It shows the strength of this city that there are so many businesses and companies that are willing to look after Defence and give them opportunities.

“I’d say to people posting in, make sure you make the most of your time in this great city and its surrounds.

“Use the opportunities that are there to visit areas, whether that’s going out to Tablelands or staying around town or going out to a Magnetic Island - there’s so many great opportunities”

He encouraged those new to the city to reach out if they needed support.

“I would just encourage people to be proactive and if you need an answer, reach out there’s plenty of opportunities to support defence in town, whether that’s DFMS, Oasis, or Geckos out at Lavarack Barracks.”
