NEW details have emerged in the fraud case against former Palm Island Mayor, Alf Lacey.
Mr Lacey was charged in March last year with one count of fraud exceeding $100,000, as well as one count of failing to meet the obligation of a councillor to correct the register of interests.
The charges against Mr Lacey were again mentioned in the Townsville Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
At the last mention, the matters were adjourned for the crown to consider it’s position in consultation with the CCC.
The court heard on Tuesday the prosecution will continue its case against Mr Lacey after it was heard the former mayor’s lawyer Patrick Quinn believed the case against his client was going to be dropped.
Two witnesses will be called to give evidence when the matters proceed to a hearing later this year.
Mr Lacey’s matters will return to court on June 22 for mention before it proceeds to a hearing on August 19.
