THE race for the Charters Towers mayoralty is set to be a remake of 2016, as businessman and defeated mayor Frank Beveridge confirmed he would run for the job again.
Mr Beveridge, who most recently made an unsuccessful attempt to unseat Kennedy MP Bob Katter in the federal election as an LNP candidate, was mayor between 2012 and 2016.
But he was unseated by incumbent Liz Schmidt who seized the mayoralty at Charters Towers Regional Council after securing 53 per cent of the vote after preferences.

Cr Schmidt, a former long-time livestock transport operator, is a first-term mayor, and will be seeking re-election. Deputy Mayor Sonia Bennetto and councillors Graham Lohmann, Roma Bailey and Bernie Robertson all confirmed this week they would seek re-election.
Councillor Alan Barr said he was “half a chance of running” – he wasn’t 100 per cent certain but there had been “some changes” in his thinking heading into 2020.
Councillor Mike Power has been asked for comment, but is unconfirmed.
The only other person to indicate an intention to run is businesswoman Diana Lynch who owns Poppet Head.
Mrs Lynch announced her candidacy earlier this month and said she wanted to give something back to the region.
