Flood watch issued for Ingham: BOM forecasts 100mm+ of rain

With up to 135mm of rain forecast to fall over parts of North Queensland at the weekend, the Bureau of Meteorology has placed the town under a flood watch.

With up to 135mm of rain forecast to fall over Ingham at the weekend, the Bureau of Meteorology has placed the town under a flood watch.

The bureau warned showers would progressively get heavier from today, with heavy rainfall likely from the early hours of Sunday through to Monday as a trough moves onshore.

With catchments relatively wet from rainfall earlier this month, they will be more responsive to heavy falls and could flood from Sunday.

Localised flooding could disrupt roads.

The Herbert River catchment along with others to the north, including:

Endeavour River, Daintree River (including the Bloomfield River), Mossman River, Barron River, Mulgrave and Russell Rivers, Johnstone River, Tully River and Murray River have all been placed under an initial flood watch.

The weather bureau has forecast falls of up to 35mm of rain in Ingham on Saturday and up to 100mm on Sunday.

Smaller falls are expected in Townsville. On Saturday there is a medium chance of up to 8mm of rain while on Sunday there is an 80 per cent chance of falls of up to 35mm.

Charters Towers could get up to 15mm of rain on Sunday while Ayr is expected to get up to 10mm.

Saturday: 21C/31C. 60 per cent chance of rain of up to 15 to 35mm.

Sunday: 23C/28C. 90 per cent chance of rain up to 60 to 100mm.

Monday: 22C/30C. Medium chance of showers.

Tuesday: 23C/31C. 70 per cent chance of shower.

Wednesday: 23C/31. 50 per cent chance of shower.

Thursday: 23C/31C. Possible shower.

Saturday: 21C/31C. Possible shower.

Sunday: 24C/28C. High chance of showers up to 30mm.

Monday: 23C/30C. Shower or two.

Tuesday: 24C/31C. Possible shower.
