‘Master shredder’ Emma Lynam runs her own business and hires her own employees – and she does it all with Down syndrome and autism.
Jo Field from Feros Care was at the world-first Townsville premiere on Wednesday.
“Emma has built this business herself and she works with a lot of Townsville companies shredding their confidential documents,” Ms Field said.
“She actually can’t read, so the companies feels that makes it even better.”
Alongside Miss Lynam, who runs Master Shredder, on the big screen is Pimlico woman Natalie Curtis who ris behind Vital Support Services, offering complete home care packages.
“Natalie is in a wheelchair herself so people feel really comfortable around her,” Ms Field said.
“She recognised that people needed more support in Townsville and she made this business.”
Fearless Films got the red carpet treatment at Birch Carol and Coyle.
A premiere also happened in Mackay, where a fellow season four star runs his own delivery service.
Ms Field said the documentary series carries an important message to employers.
“We all know employment is a game changer for people,” she said.
“We’re trying to get the message across that when you employ people with a disability, you’re gaining a lot and really enriching your workplace.”
Anyone interested in seeing the 10-minute films can catch them online after the Australia-wide December 3 premiere at feroscare.com.au/fearless-films.
