Fatz Dog is a hidden gem in Currajong with a simple philosophy of good service and good coffee to go but also with plenty of tables for those wanting to slow down and relax.

The philosophy has seen the café celebrate its tenth anniversary last month and owner Sharon

Schmidt, who also operates Grocer on Hammett, said their goal had always been to provide a service for those wanting to grab a quality coffee and snack to go.

“Something that we always still try to really focus on is having well trained baristas, but also then having that quality coffee go.

“Then also our service, that’s the thing that we try to also focus on. So we get the little biscuit with the coffee, and then we try to make sure that we have a friendly experience for our customers.

“So that grabbing your morning coffee, it’s a relaxing part of your day, not a stressful part of your day.”

She said Fatz Dog had gown a loyal fan base where customers could order via the Fatz Dog app or ring or txt their order before coming down to café in Hammett Street.

“For us, it’s about coffee, but it’s also providing a space where, even though our coffees are in takeaway cups, there’s still the opportunity to sit down and just relax for a little while and take that time out.

“It’s a place where people can gather, they don’t need to make a booking, and they can just come on down and grab a table and pull some chairs around.”

She said they had a range of drinks of food on offer.

“Hot drinks and coffees and teas. Then we also do our iced coffees and ice lattes. We do milkshakes.

We’ve got smoothies and we’ve got protein shakes, for the protein type minded people.

“We do a few fruit juices, where we blend the fruit instead of squeezing, so you can get a nice, refreshing pineapple and mint frappe, or a frappe that’s fruit salad blended with berries.

There’s a range of burritos - so breakfast wraps. We do lots of sandwiches, and we make to order sandwiches as well and toasted sandwiches made to order.

“A lot of people really seek out to appreciate a good cup. Some people are more just to grab a coffee for a moment of mindfulness, or come and catch up with friends.

“Then you can have that quiet coffee and just take that moment to slow down in a busy day, if you need to like me or if you’re the other type, where you take the coffee to help you keep going on that busy day.”

Fatz Dog is located at 1 Hammett Street in Currajong and is open from Monday to Friday 6am to 5pm and 6am to 4pm on Saturday and 7am to 3pm on Sunday and for more information go to facebook.com/FDCHS/
