A four-wheel-drive towing a trailer had its front end smashed after it collided with a freight train pulling 28 carriages near Townsville.
Police, firefighters and paramedics rushed to the crash near at Alligator Creek, which happened about 3.20pm.
Townsville Police district duty officer Acting Senior Sergeant Fred Starr said the driver did not properly calculate the stop line and was clipped by the freight train pulling 28 empty sugar carriages bound for the Burdekin.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said two male occupants were able to exit the car. She said they suffered seatbelt-related injuries.
A Queensland Rail spokeswoman said the Pacific National freight train and vehicle collided on Allendale Station Access Rd. Rail services will resume after inspections are made to the track.
Motorists are urged to drive with caution although no delays are expected on the Bruce Highway.
