An 80-year-old woman has been dragged from her car and left on the road in Rosslea, Townsville.

The incident began one suburb over at the woman’s Hermit Park address, when two teenage girls knocked on the front door asking for water.

The woman gave them water and let them inside her unit.

District Duty Officer senior sergeant Scot Warrick said the girls told the woman they were thirsty.

“The victim then agreed to drive them to Rosslea, and on the way the girls became threatening towards this lady and demanded she drive them to different locations,” Snr Sgt Warrick said.

When the woman pulled over and demanded the girls get out, they stole the keys and pushed the 80-year-old from her white Kia sedan.

The woman was located on Love Lane around 2pm with minor injuries in a ‘shocked daze’.

Snr Sgt Warrick said he’s been a police officer in Townsville a long time, but this incident shocked him.

“She was just trying to help with a drink of water on a hot day. Then to take advantage of such kindness... I am lost for words,” he said.

“It’s disgraceful and I think the community will be outraged by this.”

The woman is now being looked after by her family and forensics police are investigating the crime scene.

Police are searching for two First Nations girls, either teenagers or in their early 20s.

“We have all available uniformed crews patrolling for the stolen vehicle,” Snr Sgt Warrick said.
