A FAMILY businessman has been left devastated after his workshop was targeted by a senseless arsonist.
Scott Dymock, of Dymocks Mechanical, was left to clean up the mess of 10 damaged cars after an arsonist broke into his business on Wednesday morning.
Mr Dymock watched the CCTV footage in shock, which showed a man jump the fence on Hogan St, pour petrol over a car and set it on fire about 3.38am.
“It’s really disappointing … I feel like I’ve let my customers down,” Mr Dymock said.
The shocking footage shows the man, dressed in all black and a hood, walk towards the back of the workshop with a jerry can in hand.
He goes straight for a Mazda SUV, pours petrol all over it and creates a trail of fuel where he lights the flame.
The fire immediately explodes into a ball of flames and it engulfs the vehicle in seconds.
The blaze quickly became out of control and damaged nine other cars, spreading to two cars on either side of the main target.
The blaze left three cars “close to completely melted”, and caused thousands of dollars in damage to the vehicles.
Footage shows the man bolt from the scene quickly after the fire.
Luckily, Mr Dymock’s workshop was not damaged.
Fire crews were right around the corner and worked to put the fire out before Mr Dymock arrived at the shop about 4am.
The business, which has been operating for close to 20 years, has a fairly diverse clientele and deals with a lot of insurance and private work.
It had to close on Wednesday as police declared a crime scene and investigated exactly what happened.
“It comes as a big financial burden,” Mr Dymock said.
Police are treating the fire as suspicious.
A crime scene has been declared and police urge anyone who was in the vicinity of Hogan St between 3am and 4am, or has dashcam to contact police.
