THE first official record of veteran suicides could be released publicly as early as November as part of a Federal Government study into mental health in Defence.

Families of veterans hope the data will lead to better mental health diagnosis, treatment and support options.

The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) has contracted the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) to analyse suicide in the current and former defence personnel populations.
