Bushland Beach man dies in a crash on the Townsville Ring Road

A man has died and another has been seriously injured in a crash on a major Townsville road early Sunday morning,

A MAN has died after the vehicle he was in veered off the Townsville Ring Road, crashed through a fence and came to rest near Angus Smith Drive in Douglas.

A 23-year-old Bushland Beach man was travelling northbound on the ring road in a white VW Golf about 12.45am.

It then left the roadway, crashing through a fence, crossed Angus Smith Drive, smashed through vegetation, before to came to rest in a steep gully next to the road.

The two occupants of the vehicle were trapped for a period of time.

The Bushland Beach man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews arrived at the scene just after 1am and helped free the two people and clear space for ambulance crews to access the vehicle.

The driver, a 25-year-old Nome man was taken to Townsville University Hospital in a serious but stable condition, with back and pelvic injuries.

QFES left the scene about 3.30am.

A detour was put in place at the Angus Smith until the scene was cleared.

Police cleared the scene about 7.30am.

Forensic Crash Unit investigators are appealing for witnesses, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
