A primary-aged school child has suffered facial injuries after a vehicle lost its brakes in an incident on upmarket Castle Hill.

Queensland Ambulance Service said it responded to the incident involving the single vehicle on Yarrawonga Dr shortly before 4pm on Wednesday.

A QAS spokeswoman said the vehicle had suffered brake failure before hitting a parked car.

She said the male child suffered facial injuries and was transported to hospital in a stable condition.

A second passenger was not injured.

An elderly man, meanwhile, suffered a head injury in a fall on the outskirts of Ingham earlier in the afternoon.

QAS confirmed that a man in his 70s was badly injured in the incident at an address on Abergowrie Road at 2.14pm.

A spokeswoman said the man had been transported to Ingham Hospital in a stable condition.

Initial reports from the scene were that the man had suffered significant bleeding to the head in the accident.

Townsville’s northern residents faced more peak-hour traffic gridlock, and emergency services were kept busy responding to three crashes in another eventful morning on the region’s roads.

Heavy overnight rain delivered another 115mm into the Townsville Airport rain gauge by Wednesday morning, with the rising Bohle River leading to the closure of the lower Bohle Bridge again at around 7.30am.

The diversion to the Upper Bohle Bridge added frustration for motorists travelling through the traditionally congested area.

The Bureau of Meteorology said in its latest major flood warning issued at 8.39am that the Bohle River at Mt Bohle may peak near the major flood level of 7m on Wednesday morning.

Peak hour traffic was also disrupted by a three vehicle crash on the Ring Road at Douglas, where lanes were blocked eastbound towards Angus Smith Drive at 7.50am.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that there were no injuries from the crash, which was cleared at 9.15am.

Earlier in South Townsville, emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle crash at the corner of Saunders St and Rooney St at 4.49am.

Queensland Ambulance confirmed that paramedics transported three patients to Townsville University Hospital in a stable condition.

Paramedics also went to the aid of a man in his 30s who suffered a severe head injury in an e-scooter crash on Oxley St, North Ward at 1.24am.

He was transported to Townsville University Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition.
