The Museum of Tropical Queensland will open its doors tomorrow night to show adults an action-packed after-dark experience.
It is an opportunity for grown-ups to enjoy an after-work drink and explore the museum’s current exhibition Rescue.
The exhibition celebrates the frontline people in emergency services and demonstrates the science and technology that goes into rescues. As the epicentre for cyclones and floods, emergencies are always in the forefront of Townsville’s mind.
Museum of Tropical Queensland exhibitions and public programs officer Claire Speedy said the night should not be missed.

“It is a last chance to see Rescue without kids. Adults can play in the helicopter and climb the walls and jet skis and try adult craft and all the other interactive activities. The ambience is fantastic. It is a beautiful venue after hours and it is a chance for adults to see the museum in a different light,” she said.
Rescue Up Late will feature guest speakers including Dr Yetta Gurtner. Dr Gurtner co-ordinates JCU’s centre for disaster studies.
She hopes to build up community resilience and promote the need to be prepared at the event.
“If you prepare sufficiently you reduce the likelihood or need for rescue, the less impact emotionally and psychologically,” she said.
The after-dark experience runs from 5.30pm to 8.30pm. Tickets cost $20 and include a free drink.
