A Pelican that was grounded after being found injured on the side of a road has found her wings.
Peggy the pelican was released by his carers Chris and Helen Bell, from NQ Wildlife, at Ross River Dam this week in what was an emotional farewell.

In pictures taken by NQ Wildlife’s Kath Cook, Peggy can be seen almost saying a last goodbye to Chris, who gave her a little lift, before she soared across Ross River Dam towards a pod of pelicans who will hopefully become her new family.
“It brings a tear to see them go, but they have to go back to where they belong,” Helen said.
“It’s absolutely wonderful to see them in full flight, to see such a large animal in the sky.
“I think we’ll always miss her. She spent about a month with us and it takes a bit of time not seeing her head bob up.”
Peggy was a juvenile when she was found at Oak Valley last month, unable to fly, but Wulguru vets gave the affable pelican a clean bill of good health.
The only catch was she was deemed too young to be released back into the wild, meaning she would need to stay with Chris and Helen until she was ready to be set free.
