A FORMER intensive care nurse has been fined after she was busted behind the wheel of her car under the influence of meth.
Sarah Lewis, 39, pleaded guilty to two charges of driving with a drug in her system in the Townsville Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Police prosecutor Kassandra Hall said Lewis was caught on March 10 and 16 and gave a specimen of saliva for analysis which returned a positive detection for methamphetamine and cannabis.
Her lawyer Tracy Brown said her client worked as an intensive care nurse until 2017 when she suffered from a number of personal issues including anxiety and depression.
The court heard Lewis maintains employment however was no longer working in that position, despite continuing to use drugs.
In sentencing, Magistrate Ross Mack described the offending as “madness” and a “terrible waste”.
“You can save people’s lives instead of killing yourself,” he said.
Lewis was fined a total of $1550 and suspended from driving for 13 months.
