A woman says she experienced an electric shock as a result of Monday night’s wild storms in Townsville.

Rachel Diplock, 34, came home at 10.30pm to find her enclosed front patio flooded and water running down the walls and leaking in the ceiling at her Bayswater Rd home.

After moving items with her partner and cleaning up the area, she went back to her lounge room inside, and claimed she got “quite a shock” when she turned off the power switch linked to the patio lights about 11pm.

“It went up my forearm, and I had tingling sensation leftover in my hand,” Ms Diplock said.

“I pulled my hand away luckily, but it gave my kid a bit of fright.”

Ms Diplock said she tried to contact emergency electricians for help, but did not get a response.

Electricity provider Ergon later attended and isolated the light switches, and then recommended Ms Diplock visit hospital after her electric shock.

She was assessed about 4am at Townsville University Hospital and cleared to return home after tests.

She said Monday night’s storms, which brought more than 100m of rain to parts of Townsville, left the patio area with “the most water that’s ever been in there”.
