With the AFL Townsville junior season underway for 2025 we’re shining a light on the current crop of rising stars that are making their way through the grades.
The junior divisions took centre stage over the weekend with a whopping 17 rounds still to play.
With the region producing a handful of AFL and AFLW talent in recent years, led by GWS star Tom Green and Lions standout Breanna Koenen, we hope to highlight some of the best male and female rising talents from the under-13s to under-17s divisions.
This week we uncover some of the top players to watch from the under-14s female division.
The list is in no particular order and all players were highlighted by their specific club or head coach.
TOWNSVILLE AUSSIE RULES TOP U14 FEMALE PLAYERS TO WATCH
Mena Warria (University Hawks)
Round 1 was Warria’s seventh game of Aussie rules in her life but she has quickly burst onto the scene as an exciting prospect.
She kicked six goals for the Gold Coast Suns under-16s Academy side last year and can create something out of nothing every time she touches the footy.
Her explosive speed and agility makes her a key asset in the midfield and up forward as she brings valuable insight to help guide the development of youth girls.
Will be a welcomed addition to the Hawks in 2025.
Milla Creenaune (Thuringowa Bulldogs)
Despite being her first year at club footy her natural athleticism and school level experience makes her an exciting prospect.
Creenaune demonstrates a strong run and carry and a clear hunger for the ball, qualities that will see her feature prominently in contests.
Wintarr Anderson (University Hawks)
Anderson is dominant in the ruck and thrives at the contest.
Her strong support for her teammates along with her powerful kicking makes her a key player on the field.
Lilly Wilesmith (Thuringowa Bulldogs)
With the strength to play at both ends of the ground, Wilesmith brings relentless defensive pressure and a hard attack on the football.
Her versatility and work rate will see her heavily involved in all aspects of the game.
Sarah McPhail (Hermit Park Tigers)
McPhail has stepped up this year as a co-captain with her coaching staff excited to see how she leads from the front and shows the new players her attack on the ball.
The rising star is also keen to step up and have a run with the under-17s this season.
Rachel Dizon (Hermit Park Tigers)
Dizon is a speedy midfielder that turns into a goal scoring machine.
Having played for a few seasons now, she brings great experience and skills to her side.
Amaia Landy (Hermit Park Tigers)
Another player that has taken on the role 0f co-captain this season, Landy showcases great communication on and off the field as a natural leader.
She will continue to grow in confidence this season.
Eliza Drew (University Hawks)
An energetic and athletic player who charges at contests with confidence and never hesitates to lay a tackle.
Her ‘coachability’ and game sense allows her to take on feedback and apply it effectively during both training sessions and matches.
Theo Taudigani (University Hawks)
A player that gives 100 per cent every game with her ‘head down and get the job done’ attitude.
Taudigani has taken on a strong mentoring role for many newcomers to the Hawks this season.
Isabell Stemm (University Hawks)
Another player that has stepped up as a mentor to new players in 2025.
Despite her size, Stemm fearlessly attacks the ball and consistently wraps up opponents of all sizes to create key stoppages.
Ruby-Lee Morrison (Northern Beaches Suns)
New to Aussie rules, Morrison adapted to the basics with ease and looks to be a very exciting prospect for the season ahead.
She holds her position on the field well, has strong hands and will only continue to develop her skills.
Cleo McCarthy (Northern Beaches Suns)
By all reports McCarthy’s efforts towards her pre-season training was extremely impressive.
She is rock solid in defence, has fine tuned her skills and is a great communicator during drills and games to the new players.
Heidi Neasbey (Northern Beaches Suns)
Another new addition to Suns this season, Neasbey brings with her a great sporting background and has picked up the basic skills really quickly.
She has a great reach, fast reactions when crumbing the ball and will take plenty away from every match.
