Woman, 20, charged with seven child sex charges has court case adjourned for legal advice

The 20-year-old woman is charged with three counts of unlawful carnal knowledge of children under 16.

What to do if you think a child is being abused

The case against a Toowoomba woman charged with seven child sex offences has been returned to the city’s Magistrates Court.

The 20-year-old woman, who, under Queensland law as it currently stands cannot be named until she is committed to trial, was not in court on Wednesday when her matters were mentioned.

She has been charged with three counts of unlawful carnal knowledge with or of children under 16 and four counts of indecent treatment of children under 16.

No details of the police allegations have as yet been aired in open court and the woman has not as yet been called upon to enter any pleas to the charges.

Her solicitor Brad Skuse, of Skuse Graham Lawyers, told the court the brief of evidence had been disclosed to the defence and asked for an adjournment so he could go through that brief and take instructions from his client.

Magistrate Kyna Morice remanded the woman on bail and adjourned the case for mention back in the same court on October 11.

As the law in Queensland stands, people charged with sexual offences cannot be named until committed to trial and then only if their naming doesn’t identify complainants.

However, from October 3, that law will change and people charged with sexual offences may be publicly named unless it identifies the complainants or is suppressed by court order.
