Deadheading roses? Zombie apocalypse? Spooky trick or treats? Here’s 10 things happening around Toowoomba for a Halloween haunting.

It’s a weekend of spooks as cobweb and pumpkin parties fill Toowoomba for Halloween, and thousands of residents head to the polls to vote and get their democracy sausage – hopefully without a trick inside.

Here’s ten apocalyptic things on in Toowoomba this weekend.

1. Highfields Zombiefest

Get your creative end-of-the-world zombie apocalypse costume on and be ready to toss some brains, shoot some zombies and play bunker games from 6pm on Saturday at Abbie Lane Highfields. Tickets are $30.

2. Little Shop of Horrors

Laughs and gasps are set to fill the Empire Theatre on Saturday night, with the final performance of the dark musical comedy Little Shop of Horrors, brought to you by Toowoomba’s own Shoebox Theatre Company. Performances are at 1.30pm and 7.30pm Saturday, with tickets starting from $52 for adults. For more details and to buy online visit empiretheatre.com.au.

3. Spooktacular Twilight Market

The Goods Shed is getting its spook on this Saturday from 3pm as families across the region are invited to don their best Halloween costume, enjoy the live DJ and partake in the creepy crawly twilight markets.

4. Trick or Treat on Taylor St

Mystical Curiosities are turning their shop at 2B Taylor St into a lair of spooky fun on Saturday from 6.30pm. The evening will include giveaways and a best costume competition.

5. Halloween Car Meet 2024

If the rumble of the car engine is more your style to celebrate Halloween than dabbling in the otherworld, Exposure Auto Club at 152 James St are inviting drivers and their cars to get their haunt on this Saturday night from 6pm.

6. Retribution for murder?

Exploring law and justice after the murder of a loved ones is the centre of Georgia Harper’s book, What I Would Do To You.

Meet the author at 10.30am on Saturday at the Toowoomba Library.

7. Rose deadheading workshop

If you are looking for a practical way to celebrate Halloween the Queensland State Rose Garden Association is putting on a free workshop for learning the best techniques for deadheading and maintaining your roses at Newton Rose Garden from 8am this Saturday.

8. Clifton Races

Head out to the country, away from the zombies and watch a few horse races in the perfect spring weather at Clifton. Gates open at 11am on Saturday. Tickets are $15 per person.

9. Happy Hikers Tabletop Scramble

In the event of a zombie apocalypse, get ready to scramble over rocks to survive. Happy Hikers Toowoomba will be heading up Table Top Mountain at 7am this Sunday. Tickets are $10 from eventbrite.com.au.

10. Queensland decides

Whatever your colour of government is, make sure you pick up a democracy sausage and exercise your right to have your say in the Queensland state election this Saturday.
