A WARWICK mum who trafficked meth and cannabis in the Rose City has been jailed for five years.

Monique Sarah Deighton pleaded guilty on Monday in Toowoomba Supreme Court to selling meth and cannabis over a seven month period from March to October 2019.

Crown prosecutor Shontelle Petrie told the court the 38-year-old had a customer base of at least 66 drug buyers but she conceded the trafficking had been at mainly street level.

Deighton had been joined in the operation by a male associate but her barrister Scott Lynch conceded that the business was his client’s.

That male associate was sentenced for 4.5 years in jail after he pleaded guilty before the same court late last year.

Compounding her offending was that Deighton had continued to offer drugs over a two-week period while on bail after her arrest on trafficking, Ms Petrie said.

Mr Lynch said his client had endured “an unstable upbringing” and had suffered various kinds of abuse in her teens.

Her benefit from the trafficking was limited and mainly to support her own drug habit.

Justice Martin Burns said he accepted Deighton suffered post traumatic stress disorder and anxiety from her past.

However, he said her offending was serious and that she had a criminal history in Queensland and New South Wales though mainly for violence and not drugs.

Justice Burns declared the 196 days Deighton had spent in pre-sentence custody as time served under the sentence and sentenced her to five years in jail but ordered she be eligible to apply for release on parole as of May 3, 2022, after having served a total 18 months in custody.
