Two teens, 15 and 16, charged with jewellery store robbery and armed home invasion

TWO teenagers charged in relation to a violent home invasion and the smash-and-grab theft of jewellery from a Toowoomba store remain in the custody.

The juveniles, aged 16 and 15, are charged with a smash and grab of Pascoes Jewellers In the Toowoomba Plaza shopping centre in the early hours of Monday in which a considerable amount of jewellery was allegedly stolen.

The boys are also accused of breaking into Woolworths supermarket at the Range Shopping Centre and stealing several tills.

Their alleged crime spree also involved the boys, armed with a crowbar and hammer, forcing their way into a Kearneys Spring home about 4.45am that day.

Police claim the intruders demanded keys to a vehicle there but fled empty-handed.

The pair was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, break and enter of the Woolworths and Pascoes Jewellers stores, and robbery with violence in company arising from the alleged home invasion.

The 16-year-old boy is further charged with theft of a second vehicle from a Rockville home on March 25 and stealing fuel.

Neither has been required to enter pleas to their respective charges and both remained in the watch house when their matters were mentioned in Toowoomba Children’s Court on Wednesday.

Solicitor Alysha Jacobsen, of Bouchier Khan Lawyers, for the 16-year-old, said her client would not be applying for bail at this stage and asked for a police brief of evidence.

Solicitor Jag MacDonald, of MacDonald Law, for the 15-year-old, said he had requested a juvenile bail program which would not be prepared until Thursday and asked for an adjournment to then for a possible bail application.

Acting Magistrate Kay Ryan therefore remanded both boys in custody with the 16-year-old’s matters adjourned to June 2 and the 15-year-old to appear in the same court on Thursday for a possible bail application.
