Toowoomba’s Ceramic and Brass renovation showroom opens in CBD

Toowoomba is in the midst of a renovation boom thanks to government grants and Covid-19. Now a new showroom has opened near the CBD to offer some boutique items.

With Toowoomba’s renovation market booming during Covid-19, Kelly Farrell and Gilly Fowler are hoping to introduce boutique and “bespoke” products to help residents with their new bathroom or living room.

The Toowoomba husband-and-wife duo have just launched Ceramic and Brass on Campbell Street near the city centre.

The new showroom, inside the old Scanlan Printing shop, is a rebrand of the couple’s previous business TFBK Supplies, which earned a strong following at a previous location in Wilsonton.

Mr Farrell said while he loved the industry, he wanted to open residents, tradies and interior designers to an entire range of amazing pieces and furnishings that previously would only be found in Brisbane.

“The reason we’ve done this is because where we were was not us,” he said.

“We couldn’t be creative, we didn’t have the space and we couldn’t showcase what we wanted.

“We got very bored with the run-of-the-mill stuff, when there are so many nice interesting pieces out there.

“We also wanted this to be a place where designers, architects and builders can bring their customers and not be embarrassed by the run-of-the-mill stuff.”

Some of the more exclusive pieces include a pair of wash basins created out of a boulder from southeast Asia, along with faucet sets from around Australia and the world.

Mr Farrell said he wanted Ceramic and Brass to cater for anyone involved in renovations.

“We’ve rebranded and restarted the business to suit customers looking for something special,” he said.

“We get DIY-ers, people who do a bathroom and bring their customers in to choose the products — sometimes they also just send their customers to us.”

Ms Fowler said the change was already attracting customers hoping for something different.

“We’ve only been open two weeks and we’ve already had people come in and we’ve designed their whole renovation,” she said.

There are lots of people who have come from interstate and many of them live in East Toowoomba.”
