Toowoomba and Darling Downs schools will open their gates Saturday and Sunday to provide Covid-19 jabs, as part of Queensland Health’s weekend vaccination blitz.

Darling Downs Health will offer the Pfizer vaccine at Crows Nest State School, Tara State College, Nanango State College and Murgon State High School for Super Schools Saturday.

The walk-in clinics will be open to everyone aged 12 years and above from 8am- 2pm.

The Darling Downs West Moreton Public Health Network will run clinics from 9am-5pm at Wilsonton State High School and Oakey State High School Saturday and Sunday.

The weekend jab blitz includes 100 school locations across the state.

Other locations in the Darling Downs include:

  • Millmerran State High School: 8am-2pm Saturday
  • Dalby State High School: 8am-2pm Saturday
  • Kingaroy State High School: 8am-2pm Saturday
  • Toowoomba State High School: 8am-2pm Saturday

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the school pop-up clinics were focused on areas with low vaccination uptake.

“We need Queenslanders to vaccinate before it’s too late,” the Premier said.

“Vaccinations are the key to saving lives and reuniting Queenslanders with their friends and family.

“We’re working hard to make it as quick and easy as possible for all Queenslanders to get vaccinated.

“Super Saturday is our largest vaccine push to date. If you’ve been saying you’ll just wait a bit before getting the vaccine – it’s time for you to come forward and get vaccinated now.”

Queensland recorded no new local cases on Friday, a day after an unvaccinated Uber driver plunged the southeast into a new Covid-19 crisis.

Five new cases were detected in hotel quarantine.

There is concern, however around a truck driver who’d had one dose of the vaccine and was active in the community for two days who has tested positive for Covid-19 in Victoria.Vaccination rates across Queensland have increased to 73.66% first-dose and 58.2% fully-vaccinated.

The Clifford Gardens clinic run by Darling Downs Health will remain open from 8.30am-4pm seven days a week.

If you plan to attend any of the weekend clinics, make sure you bring ID, your Medicare card and a pen.
