Toowoomba Busking Festival transforms CBD into live music hub
A Toowoomba country rocker living out his wildest dreams has battled for busking glory against some of the region’s best local talent. SEE OUR PICTURE GALLERY.
Toowoomba’s CBD came alive at the weekend as local musicians belted out their best in the hopes of being crowned the region’s top busker.
The streets surrounding Toowoomba’s Grand Central shopping centre were abuzz on Saturday as buskers and musicians from across the region competed for the Toowoomba Busking Festival’s grand cash prize.
Travelling musician Jacob ‘Kroggy’ Krog, originally from Toowoomba, came home for the occasion – taking a short break from his epic journey across the country.
“It’s nice to come home and play some of my originals on the streets to my hometown folk and anyone else who hadn’t seen me play,” he said.
“I got a nice little pat on the back for some of my songs which was pretty cool.
“Being on the street, you tend to actually pull a few extra punters to your gigs as well.”
Sick of the cookie cutter life, Kroggy and his wife chose to pack up the family and travel across Australia, giving Kroggy a chance to kickstart his music career.
“My wife and I just got sick of the rat race and all the bulls--t that rolls with it,” Kroggy said.
“We both wanted to tour Australia, we wanted our kids to have a different experience and I get to chase my musical dream in the meantime.
“It’s very freeing, sure it has its moments, but it suits us.”
Kroggy was one of many buskers sharing their talents with acts from local musos Salmonhead and People’s Choice winner Quinnley.
“It was a bloody good day, what a great event,” Kroggy said.
“It was just so cool to see everyone actually take the time to wander around and see the local talent.”
