A NSW man was held in the Toowoomba watch-house at the weekend after he attempted to flee from police by running through the crowd at a football game.
Goondiwindi Senior Sergeant Richard McIntosh said the man was wanted for an offence in NSW when he was observed by police near the Legends of League community game, about 7.50pm on Friday.
The officers gave chase on foot and the man ran alongside the sideline of the football field before he was subdued.
Police will allege that during the arrest, the man’s partner assaulted one of the officers by punching him in the back of the head.
“Several other persons will be charged with threatening behaviour,” Senior Sergeant McIntosh said.
The man was taken to the Toowoomba watch-house ahead of extradition proceedings on Monday.
Meanwhile, Queensland police travelled to Moree to extradite a 20-year-old Boggabilla man. He is facing 35 charges in Queensland including armed robbery and property related offences committed in Goondiwindi.
“Police have objected to his bail and he appeared before the Warwick Magistrates Court on Monday,” Senior Sergeant McIntosh said.
