In the second weekend of the Carnival of Flowers, thousands of people from across Queensland and the country flocked to Toowoomba to see some of the spectacular gardens on show.
One of the most popular to visit was that of Tiffany Wicks, empirically decided by the Chronicle Garden Competition judges as Toowoomba City’s most impressive garden.
Mrs Wicks said it has been “bumper to bumper,” at her garden on Fairholme St, Mount Lofty.
“It feels like how busy it is in the parks,” she said.
“We’ve had people from all over the country and from different parts of the world.
“It’s a universal language that brings cultures together.”
The mother of four said the crowds of gardening enthusiasts had been mayhem in the best way possible.
“Every day it’s been just divine talking to everyone,” Mrs Wicks said.
“It astounds me that people are so interested.”
She said while many were asking her for tips, some experienced gardeners shared their wisdom with her, which she says is how she’s gotten here in the first place.
She said about half the things she has done in her garden are because of things she’s learned from other people, some of whom have become friends as well.
“You’re sharing your artwork but you’re also connecting with others,” she said.
She extended a heartfelt thanks to the Chronicle Garden Competition, garden liason Mike Wells, who she said had been a great “pillar of support”.
Mrs Wicks’ garden will be open for another week, from 9am to 5pm every day until Sunday, September 29.
