Thousands descended upon Toowoomba’s Queens Park on Saturday, to bask in the region’s rich tapestry of culture.
On Saturday night, the Toowoomba International Multicultural Society hosted their third annual International Street Fiesta, a celebration of culture through food, music, language and people.
President of the TIMS, Gitie House OAM, said thousands of people attended the celebration, where more than 35 groups performed and dozens offered a taste of their culture through food.
She said by her estimates, the amount of attendees was up 40% from previous years, something she partially attributed to great weather on the day.
“It brings people of all backgrounds together,” Ms House said.
“The community spirit it generates is just wonderful.”
Ms House, who has an Order of Australia Medal, said it was important to highlight that Australia was celebrating the success and achievements of all Australians, irrespective of their background.
