In a first for Toowoomba’s Municipal Band, the 103 year old performing group has recorded their first album, which will be launched through a concert this Saturday.
The band, also known as The Munies, often performs in Anzac Day parades, street carnivals, ceremonies, and other community events.
Tell the Story is an album of selected works by composer and conductor Barrie Gott, who worked with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in the ‘70s and he has always been surrounded by music.
Mr Gott grew up playing the cornet and the trumpet and said writing melodies was second nature to him.
In March the Redeemer Lutheran Church was turned into a studio as The Munies recorded the up tempo, joyful album.
“It’s one that I hope will not only entertain them, but inspire them as well,” he said.
“It is a mixture of my sacred and secular material.
“It will be a vehicle for them to promote the band in Toowoomba and the surrounding area.”
The production will also include performances from family and friend groups within the band, including The Skermans, The Lingards, The Lanzafames, and The Ryans.
The concert is at 4pm on Saturday May 24.
It will be hosted in the Redeemer Lutheran Church and tickets are $20.
