On May 22, 1921, the first foundations were laid for what would eventually become St Vincent’s Hospital.

To celebrate that centenary milestone, the East Toowoomba private hospital now has a dedicated wall to celebrate its rich history.

Staff and guests on Friday helped unveil a history wall, which can be seen in the hospital’s new emergency department.

In 1920 the Sisters of Charity established a community in Toowoomba with the goal to build a hospital.

The sisters initiated a fundraising campaign and purchased a four-acre estate facing Herries and Mackenzie Streets.

On November 19, 1922, St Vincent’s Hospital officially opened.

The hospital is now planning for the 100-year celebration of its opening in 2022.
