The two Toowoomba police officers who were hit by an allegedly stolen truck at Meringandan have thanked the community for its support as they are released from hospital.

The two police officers rammed by an allegedly stolen truck at Meringandan are expected to make a full recovery.

Detective Senior Constable Mark Penberthy and Senior Constable Steven Ingerson have thanked the community for their support.

“I wish to say a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Meringandan Produce and other members of the public who came to our aid at the scene,” Sennior Constable Ingerson said.

“I especially wish to thank LifeFlight and their incredible, dedicated team who provided me with the best care and to the medical staff at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, who have been amazing.

“I want to particularly thank my police mates for their visits and messages of support.

“I am grateful to have received so many well wishes from people across the community, it’s been quite humbling.”

Senior Constable Ingerson suffered multiple suspected fractures, along with internal bleeding, after he was hit by the allegedly stolen Hino Series 300 truck about 1.30pm on Wednesday.

He was flown to Brisbane where he was placed in an induced coma.

Despite the serious injuries he is expected to be released from hospital soon.

Senior Constable Penberthy was transported by road to St Vincent’s Private Hospital in Toowoomba and was released late Wednesday night.

“It has been truly moving to have received so much support and well wishes from not only friends, family and colleagues, but also members of our community,” he said.

“I wish to particularly thank the Queensland Ambulance Service officers; John, Kelly and Scottie who assisted me at the scene. I sincerely thank those members of the public who assisted us that afternoon.

“I also want to thank the medical staff of Saint Vincent’s Hospital, who do an incredible job.”

Bartholomew Peter Dornbusch, 45, stands accused of ramming both officers as they were attempting to remove him from the Hino truck after they found it parked on Meringandan-Goombungee Rd.

Police allege Mr Dornbusch fled in the truck and led officers on a pursuit that ended at the Goombungee rubbish dump where he is alleged to have collided with another police vehicle.

Two officers from this second crash suffered minor injuries that were the result of airbag deployments.

Mr Dornbusch has been charged with two counts each of attempted murder and unlawful use of a motor vehicle and one count each of endangering the safety of a person in a vehicle with intent, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, break and enter, wilful damage, evade police and possess dangerous drugs.

He is currently held in custody.

The Hino truck was stolen from TyreRight in Oakey earlier Wednesday morning, along with a HiLux ute.

Police tracked the Hilux to Charlton where they spiked its tyres and took two men into custody, aged 19 and 28.

They are charged with a raft of serious offences have been remanded in custody untile there next court appearence on June 22.
