A Toowoomba man caught drug-driving three times in as many months has been placed on probation to address his cannabis habit.

Sean James Lynch had tested positive for methylamphetamine and cannabis after being pulled over while driving on Ruthven Street about 10pm, August 12, Toowoomba Magistrates Court was told.

The 41-year-old was again pulled over by police on North Street about 9pm, October 31, again testing positive for the same two drugs, police prosecutor Cameron Francis told the court.

This time police issued him with a driver’s licence suspension as it was his second in as many months, the court was told.

Yet, on November 5, after being pulled over on Pottinger Street, Lynch again tested positive for meth and cannabis, Mr Francis said.

Lynch pleaded guilty to all charges.

His solicitor Michael McElhinney told the court his client instructed he did not do meth and hadn’t touched that drug for five years, though he did concede to smoking cannabis.

Mr McElhinney said he couldn’t explain that but he had heard that meth was sometimes mixed with cannabis.

He said Lynch instructed he smoked cannabis for chronic pain he suffered but he was planning on obtaining advice for medical cannabis.

Magistrate Clare Kelly placed Lynch on 12 months probation and disqualified him from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for a total two years and nine months.
