The region’s leading healt experts have revealed how the changes in vaccines will impact the region, after it was revealed that the AstraZeneca vaccine would only be made available to people over the age of 60.

A Darling Downs Health spokesman revealed exactly how the changes would impact Toowoomba over 60s, and those concerned with the changes in vaccine distribution.

“On June 17 the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation updated their recommendation that the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is the preferred vaccine for people under 60,” he said.

“The advice has not changed for those people who have already received their first AstraZeneca dose.

“The Therapeutic Goods Administration advises that your second dose of vaccine must match your first dose.

“If you are under the age of 60 and have already received your first dose of AstraZeneca with no severe adverse events, you should continue to receive your second AstraZeneca dose.”

Darling Downs Health has provided vaccine clinics in Toowoomba, and clinics providing the AstraZeneca vaccine in Wandoan, Miles, Chinchilla, Jandowae and Millmerran.

The DDH spokesman said. vaccination clinics have been very well received with bookings near capacity in all locations.

Given the influx in people wanting to receive the vaccine, the Baillie Henderson Clinic is only accepting those who have booked in an appointment to be vaccinated.

The clinic is in the Maudsley building of the Baillie Henderson Hospital campus and is open 8.30am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday.
