Multiple fire crews are working to contain a grass fire west of Toowoomba that was started when a truck caught alight on a major highway.

Air support has been called in an effort to stop the spread of the grass fire that forced one lane of the highway to close.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews were called to the incident on the Warrego Highway at Jondaryan about 10.12am on Friday.

A QFES spokeswoman said six ground crews were on scene at the incident, as well as a water bomber.

The grass fire began after a tilt tray truck caught alight on the highway which resulted in a slow-moving grass fire. The truck was destroyed in the blaze.

The QFES spokeswoman said ground crews were working to mop up the fire from the eastern, northern and western flanks while the water bomber attacks the southern side of the fire, which is still burning.

Both Queensland Police and Queensland Ambulance Services crews have been called to the incident and traffic control has been put in place. It is understood the western lane of the Warrego Highway has been blocked by the incident.
