Police investigate break-ins at motel, caravan park and multiple homes across Goondiwindi

Police are searching for a group of offenders who forced entry to multiple homes and businesses, belting one victim over the head and throwing a pot plant at another, before ramming officers’ vehicles to avoid capture.

A man has been injured and a woman was lucky to escape unharmed after they were threatened during a spate of home invasions.

Goondiwindi Senior Sergeant Richard McIntosh said in the early hours of Sunday morning the offenders targeted multiple homes in the border town before fleeing into NSW in two stolen utilities.

Between 5pm on Saturday and 12am Sunday they smashed a door and entered a McGregor St home where they found a set of keys and stole a vehicle.

“The offenders have damaged other property when stealing the vehicle,” Sergeant McIntosh said.

The vehicle was taken across the border to Boggabilla where it was destroyed by fire about 1.40am on Sunday.

About the same time the offenders stole a D-Max utility from a caravan parker after they found its keys inside the vehicle.

At about 3.15am the offenders kicked in the door of a motel room and stole keys for a Dodge Ram utility and fled in the vehicle.

They then went to an Albert St home where they used an outdoor table to break through a glass door.

“The resident has woken and yelled at the offenders who have then thrown a pot plant at her and then decamped,” Sergeant McIntosh said.

Between 4-4.20am the offenders kicked in the front door of a nearby home where they were confronted by a 57-year-old resident.

“He was assaulted by one of the offenders hitting him in the head area with a torch,” Sergeant McIntosh said.

“The offenders kept demanding the keys and decamped from the residence a short time later.”

While responding to incidents, police located the two stolen vehicles in Macintyre St.

“At this time both vehicles attempted to ram the police vehicle,” Sergeant McIntosh said.

“The offenders have also thrown objects at the police vehicle causing damage.”

The offenders fled across the border to Boggabilla and police were unable to pursue due to concerns for public safety.

The white Dodge Ram and an orange D-Max ute remain at large.

Anyone with information about the offences should phone Policelink on 131 444.
