Police arrest five people on 62 charges after spiking stolen Subaru Liberty sedan

Five people have been taken into custody after the tyres of an alleged stolen vehicle were spiked, and a home raided, with police recovering cash and jewellery.

A cache of allegedly stolen jewellery and cash has been recovered and five people arrested in raids following police spiking the tyres of a stolen Subaru Liberty.

Toowoomba Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said police were alerted to the vehicle in the early hours of Monday morning and successfully deployed a tyre deflation device on the New England Highway at Cambooya shortly after 2.30am.

“It resulted in the apprehension of a 20-year-old man and one female juvenile,” he said.

The vehicle was reported stolen after a break and enter at a Harristown home about 11pm on July 28.

“A number of people ran from the vehicle and were not detained at the scene,” Sergeant McCusker said.

Police raided a Waverley St unit in Toowoomba a short time after spiking the car’s tyres, and arrested a 17-year-old boy and a 44-year-old woman.

“While at this address police located a sum of money and an amount of jewellery all linked to recent property related crimes,” Sergeant McCusker said.

They also found a quantity of drug items.

Meanwhile officers searched the Subaru and recovered stolen property that had been taken during recent burglaries in Toowoomba and Warwick.

The 17-year-old boy was charged with 20 offences including 11 counts of burglary-type offences.

The 20-year-old man with nine offences which include three counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle and two counts of burglary.

The 44-year-old woman is charged with eight offences including possession of in a restricted item in relation to a taser that was allegedly found during the searches, and three counts of receiving tainted property.

A 17-year-old girl is charged with seven offences while a second 17-year-old boy is charged with six counts of burglary, three counts of receiving tainted property and four counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

All five alleged offenders were held in police custody overnight to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
