PM says Toowoomba quarantine hub proposal is being looked at as a ‘supplementary’ site to hotel quarantine

A proposal for a quarantine hub in Toowoomba is being examined as a possible supplementary facility to the nation’s hotel quarantine arrangements.

Local politicians discuss hub proposal

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has confirmed his office is looking at the State Government and Wagner family’s proposal for a COVID-19 quarantine hub at Toowoomba as a supplementary facility to the hotel quarantine system and the Howard Springs quarantine site in the Northern Territory.

Speaking yesterday, Mr Morrison said hotel quarantine remained the most effective way to bring Australians home from overseas.

But the Prime Minister also said the Commonwealth was open, where there were good, comprehensive proposals, for other facilities to be used to deal with emergency situations or repatriation flights.

He ruled out Gladstone as an option for a quarantine hub.

“But the Toowoomba option we’re looking at as a supplementary capacity and writing back to the Queensland Premier about that.”
