The owners of a character home in East Toowoomba’s Godfrey St have proposed a series of extensions and refurbishments.

Heritage architect Stephanie Keays lodged the plans on behalf of the owners of 26 Godfrey St last week.

The home, “Glenroy”, sits under the provisions of the Neighbourhood Character Overlay Code.

According to plans lodged with Toowoomba Regional Council, the proposal involves the renovation of the kitchen area, the addition of a north-facing conservatory and replacement of the carport facing Anderson St with a new garage.

“The proposed extensions at Glenroy continue the owners’ efforts to create a home befitting of the early history of their home,” Mrs Keays wrote.

“The house was divided into flats during the inter-war period and the owners have painstakingly restored the house to its former glory.

“The additions are intended as a final project to provide this substantial early home with a high standard of modern amenity and accessibility.

“This will ensure its ongoing viability as a family home and hence its long-term

conservation as a character home.”

The plans are currently being assessed by Toowoomba Regional Council.
