Photos: Huge crowd for opening night of Toowoomba’s Christmas Wonderland

An institution of Toowoomba’s holiday season has returned after being cancelled last year, with thousands turning up to the opening night of Christmas Wonderland. See the gallery here.

Toowoomba's Christmas Wonderland

Chelsea Golding and Sami Shine were just two of the thousands who packed out the Botanic Gardens for the opening night of Christmas Wonderland on Saturday.

The massive public lights show, organised by the Lions Club of Toowoomba West, returned after a one-year hiatus due to Covid-19.

Event committee chair Marshall Cox said up to 4000 people went through the gate, making it one of the biggest opening nights in years.

“We had a big crowd last night and we’re surprised at the numbers — I thought it would be around the 3000 to 4000 mark,” he said.

“This is our 13th year in the Botanic Gardens and it has been become an institution that people look forward to.

“People are busting to get out and celebrate Christmas.”

The display will be open 7pm to 10pm every night until Christmas Eve.
