More than two years on since the discovery of the charred body of a 63-year-old man in a burnt out Toowoomba home, the case of the man accused to be behind the heinous crime is still ongoing.

An outstanding psychiatrist report has further delayed the case of a man accused of murdering a 63-year-old man and setting fire to his South Toowoomba home.

Phillip Alastair Harris has been held in custody since the 29-year-old was arrested in December 2019 after the discovery of Peter Weaver’s charred body inside a torched Rivett Street home on the night of December 15, 2019.

Emergency services at the scene allegedly found the dismembered body of Mr Weaver inside the home, as well as the dismembered remains of a dog.

Mr Harris has been charged with a number of serious offences, including murder, arson, misconduct with a corpse by interfering and serious animal cruelty, but no pleas has yet been required.

The man’s solicitor Phil Stainton mentioned the matter in Toowoomba Magistrates Court again on Wednesday, where he revealed that he was still waiting on a psychiatrist to provide their report on Mr Harris, and that more material had been received by his office from the prosecution.

Magistrate Kay Philipson adjourned the matter to June 15, with Mr Harris remanded to remain in custody.
