Oakey man, 43, charged with breaking into multiple businesses over the past month

Police were called to a Darling Downs service station early this morning, where they caught a man breaking into the business. They have now linked him to a spate of crimes.

Police have arrested a man who is alleged to have broken into multiple Toowoomba businesses in the past month, including a Jondaryan service station where an ATM was stolen.

According to the initial police report, officers were called to Golden Harvest Roadhouse on Bridge Street in the early hours of Tuesday.

They arrived to find a 43-year-old Oakey man, who fled on foot.

Officers from the Toowoomba Tactical Crime Team pursued the man, and he was arrested a short distance from the business.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said the Toowoomba Property Crime Team had since linked the man to spate of property offences.

They include a break and enter at the Bill and Russell Hughes Cars Sales site on Ruthven Street, where a glass sliding door was forced open and a small safe was removed from a wall with the use of a grinder.

The man is also alleged to have broken into the Metro Petroleum Service Station on July 14 by damaging front door, tampering with the CCTV system before leaving empty-handed.

On June 29, the man is alleged to have forced entry via the rear door of the Cobb and Co Roadhouse at Jondaryan before stealing an ATM, ripping the alarm off the wall and stealing cash from a till.

He is further alleged to have broken into the Dan Carroll Truck Sales site on June 26, where he stole a range of electronics and tools.

Officers executed a search warrant of the man’s Oakey home where they allegedly found items linked to the offences.

Police charged the man with six counts of entering premises and committing an indictable offence, three counts of entering a premises with intent, one count of fraud, two counts of attempted fraud, two counts of wilful damage and one count of possessing house breaking equipment.

“The Toowoomba Property Crime team will review current crimes to determine if other charges will be laid,” Sgt McCusker said.

The man will face Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
